Writing has always been a means of expression and a channel for personal joy and connection with others. Wherever there is an outlet to share my words, you’ll find me with a pitch. As a 7-year-old, I enjoyed pretending to be a journalist creating mock newspapers and an author penning fictional stories, all in professional pink ink. As a high school student, I wrote controversial pieces for my school newspaper. As a researcher, I’ve reviewed, published and provided critical feedback on papers in acclaimed academic journals.
My name is Zehra Kamani and I am a Toronto-based freelance writer. I have a Master’s degree in Psychology, have worked for years in research, and love dabbling in different forms of writing, from creative writing and poetry to well-researched magazine articles and academic papers. I have a passion for topics related to health and wellness, faith/identity/culture, and parenting. I also have extensive experience writing on diverse topics for various organizations and businesses.
Sharing my words has helped me connect with people around the world, some of whom I have never met, but who, through mutual experiences and shared thoughts, have brought us together. This is what led me to develop and present my first ever documentary, which has over 75K views on YouTube!
When I'm not writing, you can find me spending time in nature with my phone on hand (I love documenting everything), following my kids as they take the lead, and figuring out how to achieve that elusive balance in life between family, work, community, personal time, self-growth, and sleep (work in progress!)
